2019 Hall of Fame

Aurora Barbarians Rugby Football Club Hall of Fame

Mission

The Aurora Barbarians RFC Hall of Fame pays tribute to the great personalities of our club, who through their unique commitment and dedication have in some profound way set an outstanding example for others to follow and in doing so, have immeasurably enriched our organization while promoting its standing within the rugby and civic communities.

Many of the athletes, administrators and volunteers that we honour can be considered pioneers of rugby in Ontario.  Some have attained greatness on the pitch; others have dedicated unbounded hours and inexhaustible effort into the growth and development of our sport.  Regardless of when or how their contributions were made, one common thread binds them together…their passion for the game.  It is this passion that we honour by their induction into the Aurora Barbarians Rugby Football Club Hall of Fame.

Eligibility

Hall of Fame candidates, whether Athlete, Administrator, Coach, Trainer, Referee or any variety of volunteer must have made a major and lasting contribution to the Aurora Barbarians RFC. Athletes must be retired from competition for at least five years (however, the Hall of Fame Committee reserves the right to advance a candidate directly to the Hall of Fame by reason of outstanding pre-eminence and skill). Individuals may be inducted posthumously.  A nominee’s candidacy will not be measured against the traditional benchmarks of categories such as player, administrator, builder et cetera, but rather on the candidate’s overall contribution to Aurora Barbarian rugby (including contributions made to the founding clubs: Toronto Barbarians RFC, Aurora RFC and York Region RFC). Successful candidates will be inducted as representatives of the following Eras:  The formative years of the 1950’s, the 1960’s & 1970’s, the 1980’s & the 1990’s and the 2000’s.

On the occasion for the call of nominees for the 2019 Class of Inductees into the Aurora Barbarians’ Hall of Fame, the Hall of Fame Committee is delighted to announce that all members of the Aurora Barbarian Family, past or present, active or retired, player, official, builder or supporter; all members are invited to participate in the nominating and voting process for this year’s class of inductees to the ABRFC Hall of Fame.

Process

Nominations for those to be considered for induction into the ABRFC Hall of Fame’s class of 2019 must be submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee at the email address shown below or via the link on the Aurora Barbarians RFC website no later than May 18, 2019.  A nomination must be supported by a second and be accompanied by a brief description of the candidate’s contributions to the club(s). And while it is an earnest goal of the Hall of Fame Committee to honourably recognize contributions from individuals of all eras, the ABRFC HoFC does not affirm a minimum nor maximum number of Inductees from any particular Era into forthcoming Hall of Fame classes, due to the vagaries of the nomination process.

Subsequent to receipt of the nominations, the Hall of Fame Committee will review the names put forward and publish a list of finalists by May 20th, 2019 (or sooner) at http://abrfc.ca/about-us/hall-of-fame/2019-hall-of-fame/

The 2019 class of inductees into the Aurora Barbarians RFC Hall of Fame will be announced at the Hall of Fame Gala, 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15th at the Club House at Fletcher’s Fields, Victoria Square, Ontario.
