New Senior Men’s Coach

Uncategorized

To all Barbarians and supporters

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Tom Mcleod has accepted the role of Senior men’s coach starting in the upcoming 2020 season.

Tom has been coaching and working in performance analysis for a number of years and has been fortunate to work alongside some great individuals with excellent programs: such as Trent University, Toronto Arrows, Peterborough Pagans, Wilfred Laurier University, and the Canadian U-20 Women. Under Toms leadership Trent University has had outstanding growth and success, making the OUA semifinal’s this past fall.

Tom was an active Barb’s player and team leader from 2012 to 2014, and in 2016, making it into 1 cup final, establishing many good memories and strong relationships along the way.

He is very well connected and highly regarded throughout the Rugby community at all levels.

I know you will all welcome and support Tom as he develops an exciting group of young, talented Sr men in the upcoming seasons.

Here are  some of Tom’s thoughts:

Hi all,

I’m looking forward to coming back into the Barbs team for the 2020 season

As a coach, I believe in training through games and allowing the team to have a say in the playbook. Typical training sessions will include a lot of 15 on 15 play or small sided games with time for unit and skill development in between. Time before and after training will be provided for any individual development work players are interested in. We will build our style of play around our strengths and what we find works for us.

The coaching staff will make selections based on commitment, ability to execute and fitness.

My number 1 goal is that as players you enjoy being a part of the team and look forward to training. If players enjoy training we get good numbers, if we get good numbers we get realistic and competitive practice, if we get realistic and competitive practice we put out strong teams every weekend.

If you’ve got any thoughts you’d like to discuss I’m always happy to chat.

Hope to see you in the Winter sessions,

Tom
