2025 has been a remarkable year for Barbarians stand-out Back Row Adam Doane. Doane a 3rd year student at UVic fresh off their 4th place finish at the Canada University Championship this past November in Montreal was named the tournament best flanker of the tournament, headed back to school to wrap up the fall semester. Thursday, November 20th while in class, Adam received a called to get to the airport as the Canada National Men 7s team suffered an injury at training and they needed him in Trinidad and Tobago for the Rugby North American’s Championship. Without a moment to spare- he went home, packed his bags and landed at 6am in the morning and was earned his first National 7s Cap 2 hours later. While the tournament is currently ongoing the Canada team are 3-0 only giving up a single try in pool play.
To those who watched Adam play this summer, it’s came as no surprise. Adam co-captained the Ontario Under 20 Boys to Canada Summer Games Gold in Newfoundland this August. He travel with the Canada Under 20 Men program this spring to Fiji for the Oceania Rugby Championship and between both competitions was a fixture of the Barbs Senior Men 1st XV and was a dominate force all summer before heading back to Victoria.
Adam is another example of the club’s development model of Aurora to Canada and marks the 12 Barbarian player to earn national honours in 2025. Congratulations to Adam and the Doane family on your first of hopefully many selections for Canada.
